Welcome to Buninyong
Buninyong, located 11km south of Ballarat at the base of Mt Buninyong, holds deep cultural significance for the Wathaurung people and was one of the earliest inland settlements in the Port Phillip District.
Surrounded by farmland and forested hills, the town is rich in history—including its role in the 1851 gold discovery that helped spark the Ballarat gold rush—while today offering a blend of historic charm and vibrant country living. Its well-preserved gold-era buildings, gardens, cafés, markets, festivals, and modern amenities create a unique balance of heritage and contemporary community spirit.
